150 Swimmers from Lucan

Colaiste Cois Life, LucanColáiste Cois Life from Lucan, Co. Dublin had nearly 150 swimmers taking part in the Ian Daly Swim A Mile With A Smile over two days in January, at the National Aquatic Centre. This is the largest group they have had since they started participating in the swim annually, in 2010.

All the swimmers had a great time. This is in large part to the work of the teachers, Tomas Konstantin and Angela Gibbons who put in a lot of effort in organising the swimmers into groups which helped the event run smoothly.

Thank you to all involved. If you have a large school or community group who would like to take part in the swim contact us  and we will help you make it happen, no matter what part of the country you are in.

6 Week Training Plan

ZERO to 1650 in Six Weeks

Young or old, fit or not, six weeks seems to be the most common length of time it takes to be able to swim a mile without stopping for rest.

Don’t allow yourself to be put off by thinking that swimming a mile sounds very far.

If you are prepared to commit yourself to swimming three times a week, and following the plan  you will be amazed by what you can achieve in a short time.

Swim 2017 Launch

Hello Swimmers,

Family Day SwimOnce again we are organising the annual ‘Ian Daly Swim A Mile With A Smile’ in aid of Barretstown, and the Children’s Cancer Research Centre at Our Lady’s Hospital for Sick Children in Crumlin. We ran another very successful event in 2016 and raised €25,000 which was divided equally between the two charities. Pictures from the event and details of the cheque presentations are on our website. Through your support and the generosity of your sponsors we have now raised over €525,000 since the event began 13 years ago. Thank you to all of you without whose effort we would not have been able to raise such a large sum of money and we look forward to your continued support this year. Please encourage your friends and family to try the swim challenge this year. It is a great way to support our charities and enjoy the satisfaction of reaching some personal milestones along the way!

This year’s event will be held on Saturday and Sunday 22nd and 23rd  April in the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown and in pools all around Ireland. We are encouraging everyone to swim a mile either on their own or as part of a group at a time that suits you around this weekend. Log on to the website and click the registration link on the Home page.  Choose the date of your swim and a time that suits you. If you cannot make this weekend you are more than welcome to complete the swim at a time that suits you in your local pool. Email Brian and Laura to help you organise this.

You will find a training plan on our website that will help you build up to swimming a mile in just 6 weeks! You can also follow us on social media for regular updates and news.

We look forward to your participation this year and please encourage others to take part. If you need any further information please contact us .

Thank you again for your support,

Brian & Laura Daly

Gaelscoil Na Mara, Arklow

Gaelscoil Na Mara kicks off 2017 Swim A Mile fund raising with €1,000

The 2017 Ian Daly Swim A  Mile event kicked off early on December 16th when 33 students from Gaelscoil Na Mara in Arklow completed the swim in the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin. Most of the students completed the swim in a relay as groups of two. There were also 9 brave students who completed the 64 length mile swim individually and were rewarded with a special ‘Ian Daly Swim A Mile’ swim cap.  As you can see from the pictures the swim went off very well and everyone had a great time. The school has raised over €1000 so far for our two charities, Crumlin Children’s Hospital and Barretstown.

Well done to all the swimmers and to the teachers who promoted the event in the school, led by Áine McKenna
